57th Anniversary
The Sure-Fit Seat Cover Company, now
incorporated as Autoscope, commenced business in downtown Washington, DC
on March 28,1946 by its founder Charles M. Levinson, who is still linked
to the company as a consultant. At that time its principal business was
the manufacture and installation of auto seat covers and convertible tops.
By 1961 Sure-Fit opened 3 additional stores, one in Arlington, VA. and
operated by Bob Singer, one in Takoma Park and one in Rockville, MD.
Another store was opened in 1962 in NE Washington. At that time the
company expanded its services to include tires, auto tape players, brakes,
mufflers and exhaust systems; with 35 employees who installed $888,983
worth of automotive product. Charles' daughter Lois, later to become Lois Levinson-Reaney, began career at
Sure-Fit in 1966. In 1975 Lois became vice president, and Bob Singer
became Secretary-Treasurer and retired in 2000. In June 1986 Sure-Fit
